Types of Dental Fillings

1. Tooth-coloured composite restorations

  • Placed in layers and hardened with a special curing light.

  • Shaped and polished to match the natural tooth and bite.

  • Provide an excellent aesthetic result with shades that blend with natural teeth.

  • May wear or become stained over time, especially with coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, or chewing tobacco.

2. Glass ionomer cement restorations

  • Best suited for small cavities and as cavity liners.

  • Less durable and more prone to wear than composite materials.

  • Release fluoride, which helps reduce the risk of future tooth decay.

3. Temporary fillings

  • Used as short-term restorations to stabilize oral health.

  • Commonly placed between appointments, particularly during root canal treatment.
