Types of Dental Fillings
1. Tooth-coloured composite restorations
Placed in layers and hardened with a special curing light.
Shaped and polished to match the natural tooth and bite.
Provide an excellent aesthetic result with shades that blend with natural teeth.
May wear or become stained over time, especially with coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, or chewing tobacco.
2. Glass ionomer cement restorations
Best suited for small cavities and as cavity liners.
Less durable and more prone to wear than composite materials.
Release fluoride, which helps reduce the risk of future tooth decay.
3. Temporary fillings
Used as short-term restorations to stabilize oral health.
Commonly placed between appointments, particularly during root canal treatment.
