Replace missing teeth. Reclaim your smile.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has healed and fused with the bone, a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached to restore your smile and chewing function.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Replace one or more missing teeth.

  • Do not require the neighbouring healthy teeth to be trimmed.

  • Can support a bridge without the need for a removable partial denture.

  • Improve the stability and comfort of dentures.

  • Look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

Am I Suitable for Dental Implants?

Most healthy adults can be considered for dental implants. You will need:

  • Good general and oral health.

  • Healthy gums.

  • Enough jawbone to support the implant.

A thorough examination, including X-rays or a CT scan, will determine whether implants are the right option for you.

Bone Grafting

If there is not enough bone to support an implant, a bone graft may be recommended before or during implant placement. Bone grafts may come from:

  • Your own bone.

  • A carefully screened human donor.

  • Processed animal bone.

  • Synthetic bone materials.

The graft helps create a strong foundation for the implant and gradually integrates with your natural bone during healing.

Factors That Can Affect Implant Success

Although dental implants have a very high success rate, certain factors can increase the risk of complications, including:

  • Smoking.

  • Some medications, particularly long-term intravenous bisphosphonates used to treat osteoporosis and certain cancers.

  • Certain medical conditions or blood disorders.

Your dentist will review your medical history and discuss any potential risks before treatment.

The Implant Procedure

Implant placement is usually performed under local anaesthetic and is generally a straightforward procedure.

The implant is placed into the jawbone through a small incision in the gum, which is then closed with dissolvable stitches. The gums usually heal within 1–2 weeks, while the implant takes around 3 months to bond securely with the bone.

Depending on the quality of the bone, the implant may be placed in:

  • One stage: A healing cap is attached immediately.

  • Two stage: The implant is covered by the gum while it heals and uncovered a few months later.

Once healing is complete, impressions are taken to create your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture, completing your new smile.
